Environmental Education

Right now we are working in collaboration with the Tecnological Insittue of Banderas Bay in the project "Training for the Conservation of the Reproductive Habitat of Humpback Whales in Banderas Bay, Jalisco-Nayarit, México 2010-2011". The main purpose of this project is to organize training workshops for whale watching tour operators in Banderas Bay, Rincon de Guayabitos and San Blas. Also to do an intensive awareness campaign in media and at the marinas in the area. This poject is part of the "Wildlife without Borders" program in charge of Fish and Wildlife USA and Ecology National Institute, Mexico.

In October 2008 we organized the 1st. Workshop for Whale Watching tour Operators in the Coast of Jalisco and Nayarit, and they were held in Rincon de Guayabitos and San Blas. The workshop was sponsored by IFAW and its main purpose was the training of whale watching tour operators. Topics such as biology, behavior, photoidentification, assistance to entangled whales, good quality touristic services, among others were covered. We organized the workshop Distengalement of Large Whales in Banderas Bay IN May 2005 and we are part of the rescue network for entangled whales RABEN.

In 2002 we organized the 1st. Humpback Whale Symposium in Banderas Bay, which addressed issues as research, regulations and protection of humpbacks. The Symposium was aimed at researchers, students, whale watching tour operators, general public and the government authorities involved in the activity and contribute with the knowledge and management of this specie.

Due to the success of this event we organized the 2ndand 3rd Symposium of Humpback Whales in Banderas Bay in 2003 and 2004, respectively. We actively collaborate in the diffusion of whale watching regulations with local and federal government authorities.
